Tasting Notes
Gesha Village sits deep in Ethiopia's Bench Maji Zone — the biodiverse forests where the Gesha variety originated before it made its way to Panama and became one of the world's most sought-after cultivars. Founders Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton established their 471-hectare estate, seeding it directly from wild seeds found in the adjacent forest.
The high altitude and native trees give the coffee the perfect climate to grow, leading to coffee lots scoring 88+. On the specialty coffee scale, 80 is the floor. 88+ puts a lot in rare company. Scores are assigned by Q Graders, licensed tasters trained and certified by the Coffee Quality Institute to evaluate cups across attributes like aroma, acidity, body, and aftertaste. Bench Maji lots have been scoring in that range consistently since 2016.
This lot is a great example of the land. Blueberry up front, then softening into creamy, floral Earl Grey notes. The açaí note shows up last, giving the cup the depth it needs to carry the flavour through.
Very clean on the palate. Give it a few minutes and watch the flavours open up. Cooler temps are its friend.
